How to clean your dog's ears

Dog's ears can get dirty quickly from rolling around in the grass and sticking their heads into dirty muddy holes. 

BUT, If your dogs ears are clean and a light pinky colour, they are fine. Don't touch them.

Prodding around in your dog's ears when they are clean can cause irritation and problems.

Signs of an ear infection

  • A smelly ear
  • Shaking their head often
  • Tilting their head to the side
  • Scratching their ear
  • Red inner ear
  • Brown or orange discharge

IF YOUR DOG HAS ANY OF THESE SYMPTOMS CALL YOUR VET, THESE ARE SIGNS OF AN EAR INFECTION

Getting started

Before you start get all your supplies ready

  • Cotton wool pads
  • Small bowl of cooled boiled water
  • Tissues
  • TASTY TREATS
  1. Start by rubbing your dogs ears gengle, giving them treats.
  2. If they are happy with you touching them, then carry on.
  3. Gently lift your dogs ear and use a dry cotton pad to wipe away any dirt you can see. Give them a treat.
  4. Wet and squeeze a cotton pad and gently dab around their outer ear. Give them a treat.
  5. DO NOT go near the ear canal hole.
  6. Now dab the ear gently dry with a tissue. Give your dog another treat, lots of praise and let them go off to play.
